Excursion to Drottningholm Palace, 9 Aug Sat
Instead of celebrating Singapore's 43rd birthday at home watching the webcast of the NDP, we travelled south-west less than an hour away, by Tunnel-bana (Stockholm's metro) then bus to the Drottningholm Palace (Drottning = Queen; holm = island).
Well, just like other European cities with a monarchy background, Sweden has a palace for the Royal Family who uses part of it as their private residence. Luckily for us, there was student price so the admission tix was halved to 35skr (SGD$8) each, if not it would not be worth it cos the tourguide in english almost put us to sleep! Anyway, this place is a UNESCO World Heritage site! so we go see see lor..
Our lunch was prepared and packed by LQ as usual -Fried rice with delicious IKEA sausages (bought frozen), which they call wienkorv..
Somehere along our own walk through the palace park, we approached this Indian family (we assume from Britain) to help us take a shot of LQ & me together. And guessed what, the youngest son who was about 13yrs old had such a great knowledge and interest of Singapore and even asked us if it was our national day that day! kids nowadays really learn fast, from the internet...
Above: we were trying to show how wide the tree-lined parks were..
Also visited the Turkish-style watch tent (like circus rite), now used as a mini-museum about the place.
And saw the Chinese Pavilion; the original was meant as a gift by a King last time to his Queen, the one standing now is just a replica. This is due to the great interest in all things Chinese at that time (1700s)..
